An Asian operator recently completed the installation of the world’s first TCP Flowline for full well stream service. A huge achievement and marking a major milestone for Airborne Oil & Gas, thermoplastic composite pipe and the industry at large.
The TCP Flowline was installed between two offshore platforms in shallow water, and includes a section pulled through an I-tube connected with the platform. Installation, which included on-bottom stability measures, was carried out from small vessels, reducing total installed cost.
The operator reached out to Airborne Oil & Gas in search of a new solution to tackle pipeline corrosion as a result of Micro bacteria Induced Corrosion, or MIC” explains Wouter Spruijt, Area Sales Manager with Airborne Oil & Gas. "In the course of the project that followed, we executed an extensive qualification program that included pipe testing as well as offshore installation trials. This program was followed by the installation of this flowline for crude oil (full well stream) transport.”
The TCP Flowline is supplied in long spoolable lengths for cost-effective reel lay installation from small vessels. The flowline is spooled onto small and lightweight reels that allow for the use of a light horizontal lay spread on the vessel. With low cost DP2 support vessels being widely available, this leads to a 30% or more cost saving on as-installed cost, even when compared to carbon steel. Further cost savings are realised thanks to the avoidance of anti corrosion measures such as inhibitor pumping, power consumption, intelligent pigging and so forth. Airborne Oil & Gas works with their clients and installation contractors on proving the potential cost savings on each individual project.
Airborne Oil & Gas manufactures the TCP Flowlines in sizes up to 7.75” true ID, and operating pressures of up to 10,000 psi. The solid pipe structure is impervious to corrosion, resulting in outstanding performance in corrosive environments. It has an inner, fully bonded, smooth bore polymer liner that ensures the best attainable flow properties while still being piggable. The thermal performance of TCP is considerably better than that of steel (reinforced) pipe. The TCP end-fittings are simple and robust, relying on a well-proven mechanical clamping method. Assembly of the pipe with our end-fittings is straightforward, can be done both onshore and offshore and at any location on the pipe.
