Working at Airborne Oil & Gas

Airborne Oil & Gas has an international workforce comprising 17 nationalities. Our head office is in IJmuiden, 25 kilometres west of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. We have sales offices in Houston and Kuala Lumpur.

We primarily serve the oil & gas industry, which is arguably one of the most challenging in the world, due to its size, importance and complexity. Our people feel driven to pioneer new technologies to help improve cost and asset integrity levels for our customers. Doing so as essentially a start-up requires a dedication to quality, customer focus and an awareness that it takes years to build a trusted reputation but only seconds to lose it. Working for Airborne Oil & Gas requires a hands-on mentality, a self-starter attitude, and a commitment to continually growing the company’s reputation, each and every day.

Safety is of prime importance in the industry we serve, as well to us and our company. We want Airborne Oil & Gas to be the safest place on earth to work. We look out for each other. We work in an informal setting on developing cutting-edge solutions in a highly entrepreneurial fashion. Our project-driven technical environment offers opportunities in sales, engineering, production, or in functions such as HR, Finance and procurement. By taking ownership, perceiving situations with an open mind and challenging our colleagues, we create opportunities for personal and professional development and getting things done.

Senior Process Engineer

Division : Airborne Oil & Gas
Education level : Master / WO
Location : IJmuiden
Specialism : Engineering

About the job
You are responsible for the definition of the right production process, and to ensure proper control of these parameters so that the end-product has the right quality. This is done by using proper simulation tools to analyze the process. Based on your input and guidance the simulation tools can be further developed by the R&D team. During production the data of the process is analysed to keep the process in control and to solve non-conformances when they arise. To improve efficiency you optimize process settings and develop improvements to the process and equipment.

Main responsibilities:

  • Identify the root cause of recurring problems and address them in a team.
  • Propose practical solutions that will bring the production team to a higher level of productivity and reliability, while at the same time allowing that same team (and equipment) to deliver the products ordered by the customer.
  • Balance the demands of a continuous production process with the necessity to analyse data from the line (including the data learned from being at the line listening to the process and to the production personnel), to generate agreement regarding the cause of the problems, and to create alignment behind the most promising ways to resolve them.

All this work must of course be performed within our procedures established to control and manage the desired changes and while informing all stakeholders appropriately.

Skills and experience

  • MSc in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical, Marine, or similar)
  • Six-Sigma Black Belt would be an advantage
  • Experience in mature and high-tech production environments (10 to 15 years), preferably in the composites or plastics processing industry, to lead the definition and control of production process parameters.
  • Experience in leading and implementing improvements to machine and processes
  • Proactive, hands-on, and drive for results attitude
  • Strong all-round communication skills (both verbally and in writing)
  • Good IT literacy (MS Office) and good reporting skills
  • Fluent in English with at least basic conversational Dutch

In these teams, engineering capabilities on process, controls, mechanical design, manufacturing, and operational excellence are combined. These engineering teams work in close collaboration with the R&D department to develop and implement new technologies.
